Day 12-13 Breckenridge Rest

Pippy sprang out of the bed like a leaping kangaroo this morning at 5:30 and immediately began scampering around shoving everything in her bag like a little muskrat. She was extremely excited to begin the last four mile trek to the town of Breckenridge. Zippy was awoken by Pippy's muskrat business and was forced to begin packing too ( as Pippy started undoing the tent). It earliest departure from camp; we were on the trail ready to go at 6:30!

It was a beautiful sunny morning as we traversed on the well-used trail section through sections of meadows and forested areas in the direction of the mountain town.
Not a single cloud in the sky!
We could still see the moon from last night in the wee hours of the morning.
Pippy was mesmerized by the sounds and sights of civilization. We felt like a deer in headlights. How many more condos can there be?

We began our last couple of switchbacks  down the mountain side, walked through the small neighborhood, and to the main highway to catch the free bus into the town. There was major construction going on the other side of the freeway and where was our bus stop? Right in the middle of if. How was the bus going to get there? Hmmm....and then this is what happened. We saw a bus coming our direction, but we were not at the bus stop because we didn't think it would stop anyway. So, we thought I guess we'll take the bus to the town of Frisco which is in the opposite direction and then take the bus back to Breckenridge. Because were on vacation! So we boarded the bus to Frisco, but luckily the bus driver knew of our plan and dropped us off at the next bus stop and we were able to catch the rigt bus.
Waiting for the bus

We arrived in the cute town of Breckenridge starving and ran-walked to the first breakfast place we could find. No pictures of our food here because we inhaled/devoured it too fast. But here's some of the downtown...
We thought we were dorky with our matching shorts, but this family of four won the award. They all had matching kangaroo hats.
The streets were lined with all of these stunning flowers in potted barrels.

After our quick tour of town, we walked the two blocks to check in to our hostel for our two night relaxing vacation at the at the Fireside Inn. We highly recommend this unique, eclectic, homey and welcoming place to anybody!
Within twenty seconds of walking in, we were told by our host to put our "unmentionables" of clothing on one basket and the others in another to wash. We were then directed to a bin of loaner clothes while our others were being washed.
Don't you love them? We went to town in them too. I don't think anybody noticed. Do you?

And now the start of pampering transformation. First stop: pedicure.
Next stop: massage.

And it was marvelous. We had a free afternoon so we caught the free bus all the way to the cute town of Frisco (this time) just to check it out.

After our adventure, we checked back into our hostel, made wonderfully delicious salads, and then ate half of mouth-watering strawberry-rhubard pie from Whole Foods. We ate it all happily. Soooo good.

Time to check out and hit the trail for a couple days. Next stop: Leadville!

  1. Oooh Leadville! Home of the Leadville bike ride, does Mr Zippy know that ride? And also the setting for a great book, The Angle of Repose.

I am wondering who does the writing for the blog, do you two take turns? I hear Keala's voice, but maybe it is Syd doing the writing? Inquiring minds want to know!
